Artist, Designer & Educator

Aanii! My name is Ashley-Rose Machendagoos, an Ojibway artist from Whitesand First Nation and the owner of Zhawenim Designs.

I am a self-taught bead loom designer who combines contemporary Indigenous beadwork with traditional techniques and teachings. My passion is making beading accessible, approachable, and enjoyable for beginners while honouring the rich traditions that inspire my work.

Since 2017, I have facilitated beading workshops for classrooms, community groups, conferences, and virtual audiences, helping participants of all ages create meaningful handmade pieces while learning about Indigenous artistry and culture.

Through Zhawenim Designs, I create beadwork, beginner-friendly beading kits, and educational workshops designed to inspire creativity, connection, and lifelong learning.

I currently live and create in Wahnapitae, Ontario.

"Zhawenim" is an Ojibwe word meaning "unconditional love."
