Mini Smudge Kits
What's Included:
Abalone Shell
The abalone shell is often used to safely hold medicines during smudging. Its connection to water reminds us of balance and the importance of honouring all elements of Creation.
Selenite Stone
Selenite is commonly used by many people as a symbol of clarity, peace, and positive intention. While not traditionally part of Indigenous smudging practices, it is included as a gentle reminder to create space for reflection and mindfulness.
Sage
Sage is one of the four sacred medicines used by many Indigenous peoples. It is often used to cleanse, purify, and prepare ourselves, our homes, or our spaces through prayer and intention.
Rose Petals
Rose petals represent love, compassion, and gentleness. They may be added to your medicines as a reminder to lead with kindness toward yourself and others.
Kinnikinnick
Kinnikinnick has been used by various Indigenous Nations for ceremonial purposes. Traditions and teachings vary from community to community. It is often used with respect and intention in prayer and offerings.
How to Smudge
- Place a small amount of medicine into the shell.
- Light the medicine until it begins to smoulder, then gently blow out the flame if needed.
- Using your hand or a feather (if you have one), guide the smoke toward yourself or throughout your space while offering your prayers, gratitude, or intentions.
- When finished, ensure the medicines are completely extinguished before storing the shell.
A Gentle Reminder
Smudging is a sacred practice. Teachings differ among Indigenous Nations, families, and communities. Please use these medicines respectfully and in a way that aligns with your own teachings and intentions.
Miigwech (thank you) for supporting Indigenous artistry and traditions.
